The aviation safety agency says Jet A fuel, commonly used in North America, could serve as a temporary substitute for Europe’s standard Jet A-1 fuel if supply pressures worsen.
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency has warned that escalating tensions in the Middle East could affect jet fuel supplies across Europe, adding another potential strain on the aviation industry.
The warning, issued Friday, comes amid ongoing concerns over the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy shipments. Disruption in the region could create pressure on fuel availability and force airlines and regulators to consider alternative supply options.
EASA said it is assessing the possible use of Jet A fuel as a replacement for Jet A-1, the standard aviation fuel normally used in Europe. Jet A is more commonly used in North America, but the agency said it has provided safety guidance for its use under exceptional circumstances.
